The Silver Shirt Legion of America today withdrew its application for a charter to do business in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Protests from Jewish organizations against permitting the anti-Semitic organization, commanded by William Dudley Pelley, to establish itself in Pennsylvania as a legal corporation piled up daily. The protests included that of the Harrisburg Jewish community presented by Rabbi Philip David Bookstaber.
The withdrawal of the application was made by the Corporations Guarantee and Trust Company of Philadelphia, which had acted on behalf of the Silver Shirt Legion. The telegram of withdrawal was received by Richard J. Beamish, Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
