Pointing out that the European war has greatly increased the needs of the stricken Jewish communities in Nazi-occupied countries, Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver today asked for unqualified and unstinting support for the 1940 campaign of the United Jewish Appeal.
Rabbi Silver, national chairman of the U.J.A., spoke at the annual luncheon of the amusement division of the United Jewish Appeal at the Hotel Astor, attended by more than 500 leading stage, radio and movie stars and executives. David Bernstein, vice-president of Loew’s and chairman of the division reported an increase of nearly 50 per cent over the amounts pledged last year.
