Silverstein Elected As Head of Order Brith Abraham

An upset in pre-election forecasts resulted in the election here yesterday of Max Silverstein of New York as Grand Master of the Independent Order Brith Abraham at the close of the 47th annual convention of the organization.

Mr. Silverstein, Grand Master five years ago, defeated Louis Siegel, who as first deputy grand master, was in line for the office. He was opposed by the Class A group of members. It was stated that no change is contemplated in classes, assessments, or reserves.

Atlantic City was chosen over six other cities as the site for the 1934 convention.

Besides Mr. Silverstein, other successful candidates were: the ten deputy grand masters — Samuel Goldstein, New York; Samuel Kalesky, Boston; Harry Holz, Philadelphia; Charles Handler, Newark; Jacob W. Schwartz, Chicago; David Rufkes, New Haven; Joseph Weingart, St. Louis; Maxwell Suls, Baltimore; Clarence H. Seigel, Brooklyn, Julius Kuschner, Bronx, N. Y.

Grand Treasurer—William Eckman of New York.

Grand Trustee—Charles H. Fier of Brooklyn.

Finance Chairman—Alex Goldberg of Brooklyn.

Endowment Chairman — Max D. Fran of Brooklyn.

Endowment Treasurer—Max Rapps of Brooklyn.

Treasurer of Disability—Max Friedman of New York.

Counsel—Leon Sanders of New York.

Max L. Hollander of New York was reelected Grand Secretary.

JEWISH WAR VETERANS TO CONVENE

J. George Fredman, Commander-in-Chief of the Jewish War Veterans, composed of more than 250,000 American ex-servicemen of the Jewish faith, announced yesterday that the Twelfth National Encampment of the organization will be held at Atlantic City from July 1 to July 4. Convention headquarters will be at the Madison Hotel.

DOWLING TO AID ANTI-HITLER FUND

George Gordon Battle, honorary chairman of the American Jewish Congress campaign in New York for a million dollar anti-Hitler defense fund, announced that former Justice of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, Victor J. Dowling, will serve as third honorary chairman of the campaign together with himself and Sidney Hillman, the labor leader.
