A delegation of labor leaders, headed by Herbert Morrison, chairman of the London County Council, today called upon Sir John. Simon, Home Secretary, and demanded immediate steps be taken to curb Fascist anti-Jewish provocations in the East End.
The delegation stressed the gravity of the situation in London is thickly populated Jewish quarter, where adherents of Sir Oswald Mosley’s Fascist movement have conducted anti-Jewish rallies and depredations, and warned it would grow worse unless the Fascists were checked.
Sir John questioned the delegation at length on proposals made by Mr. Morrison in a recent letter warning “social disaster and political chaos” would result if curbs were not imposed on the Fascists.
The Home Secretary assured the delegation the Government was giving careful attention to the situation, but stated he was not in a position to anticipate an announcement to Parliament of the Government’s intentions.
Among those present at the interview were the Minister of Health, Police Commissioner Sir Philip Game and the Undersecretary of the Home Office.
