The present 312-bed Sinai Hospital has been sold at auction here for $708,000, Joseph Meyerhoff, president of the Associated Jewish Charities, announced today. The high bidder was George W. Mitchell, president of a large local plumbing and heating contracting firm, who has not yet disclosed what use will be made of the buildings.
The present hospital, which is located directly opposite Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, will close this fall when Sinai moves into a new 480-bed $20,000,000 structure now nearing completion. Located on a 195-acre site in the northwestern section of the city, the new Sinai hospital will consist of seven buildings including a research building and nursing school.
