Sir Alec Douglas-Home, the British Foreign Secretary, arrived here this evening for a three-day visit to Israel, the first official visit by a British foreign minister since the State was established. He was welcomed at Lydda Airport by Foreign Minister Abba Eban. Sir Alec said he was looking forward to his visit and to his meetings with Premier Golda Meir. Eban observed that the visit indicated a further drawing together of relations between their two countries.
Sources here said today that the main subject of discussion between Sir Alec and Israeli leaders will be the Mideast situation and the effects of Britain’s entry into the European Common Market on trade between Israel and the U.K.
