“There can be no promotion after Palestine.”
Such is the statement reported to have been made by Lieut.-General Sir Artmur Wauchope, High Commissioner for Palestine, in referring to the high honor of serving in that post within the British Empire.
In the same private conversation, he dismissed the rumors that he intended to retire this year. However, there are still persistent reports that he is to be offered and will accept the command of a British army corps with the rank of full General. These same reports state that he will be elevated to the peerage.
