Sir Daniel Levy, for many years Speaker of the New South Wales Parliament, died here yesterday at the age of 63.
A bachelor, Sir Daniel had been prominent in public life since 1919. From that year until his death he missed but four years in the post of Parliament Speaker. For two months in 1932, Sir Daniel also acted as Attorney General and Minister of Justice of New South Wales.
Born in London in 1873, he was educated in Sydney schools and received his law degree from Sydney University, entering the bar in 1895. He was active in literary, educational and philanthropic fields, having been editor of the Australasian Hebrew, director of the New South Wales Benevolent Society and a fellow of the Senate of Sydney University. Among his writings have been numerous articles on law reform.
