“I am extremely shocked at the death of Dr. Israel DeHaan. I have sent condolences to his family and associates. It was a most unfortunate occurrence,” was the statement of Sir Herbert Samuel, the High Commissioner of Palestine, upon his arrival here from Jerusalem last night, in an interview with the representative of the London “Daily Express.”
A telegram from Jerusalem to the same paper states that the extreme Jewish orthodox group in Jerusalem is endeavoring to place the responsibility for the murder of DeHaan upon the Zionists.
The correspondent adds, however, that the opposition to DeHaan’s activities was equally strong in government circles, and that DeHaan also had a number of private enemies.
The International News Service reports from Jerusalem that DeHaan was buried in his blood-stained clothes.
