Sir Herbert Samuel, former High Commissioner of Palestine and secretary of state for home affairs in the Lloyd George cabinet of 1916, will be the next Viceroy of India after the retirement of Lord Irwin, according to the “Daily Herald”, organ of the British Labor Party. In the meantime, the “Daily Herald” says, Sir Herbert is Lloyd George’s rival for the Liberal leadership.
In 1900 Sir Herbert was aide-de-camp to the Indian Viceroy.
