Sir John Chancellor, the retiring High Commissioner for Palestine and Transjordan, flew to-day to Amman, the capital of Transjordan, to take leave of the Emir Abdullah of Transjordan, on his relinquishment of his post as High Commissioner.
On his way back to Jerusalem, Sir John’s aeroplane was accompanied by a Royal Air Force escort of eight aeroplanes and a detachment of the Palestine-Transjordan Frontier Force. The aeroplanes afterwards circled round Jerusalem.
A report current last week said that General Wauchope, the new High Commissioner for Palestine and Transjordan, “may take up his duties in Palestine in September, immediately after Sir John’s departure”. It had at first been announced that the new High Commissioner would not arrive in Palestine until November.
