Sir Keith Joseph, one of the most prominent Jews active in the Conservative Party and in various high governmental posts, was named by Prime Minister Harold Macmillan this week-end to the Cabinet position of Minister of Housing and Local Government. Mr. Macmillan appointed Sir Keith when he shook up his Cabinet, removing seven top Ministers.
Sir Keith, who is 44, had been Parliamentary Secretary in the same Ministry. Since 1961, he had been Minister of State on the Board of Trade. He succeeded Dr. Charles Hill, a Cabinet member who visited Israel recently. Sir Keith is a former trustee of the Friends of the Hebrew University.
