Sir Louis Saul Sterlig widely known for his philanthropies, died here yesterday, at the age of 79. He was born on New York’s Lower East Side, and immigrated to Britain 56 years ago, where he was knighted in 1937.
It is believed that during his lifetime he contributed over $3,500,000 to a variety of causes. An honorary president of the Haifa Technion Society, he recently donated 250,000 pounds ($700,000) to the Haifa Technion. On his 50th birthday, he distributed $500,000 to 1,000 employes and business associates. On his 75th birthday he contributed the equivalent of $560,000 to cancer research.
