Site Dedicated for Memorial to 6,000,000 Martyred Jews; Ghetto Figeters Honored

The 6,000,000 Jews murdered by the Nazis before and during World War II and 40,000 Jewish heroes who died in the Battle of the Warsaw metto were honored today at the dedication of the site of a permanent memorial on Riverside Drive here. The project is sponsored by the American Memorial to Six Million Jews of Europe.

Thousands of persons withnessed the dedication ceremony conducted by Mayor William O’Dwyer, honorary chairman of the memorial committee. Jan Masaryk, Foreign Minister of Czechoslovakia, Herri Bonnet, French Ambassador to the United States, and Seva Kasanovic, Yugoslav Ambassador, presented their countries’ highest military decorations to the Unknown Soldier of the Battle of the Ghetto.

Masaryk presented Mayor O’Dwyer with an urn containing earth from the Theresien##adt concentration camp which was placed in the cornerstone. A scroll and prayer ##tten by Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog of Palestine in memory of the ghetto martyrs was also placed in the stone. Other speakers included Senators Robert Wagner and Irving ##es of New York, Greek delegate to the United Nations Constantin Tsaldaris, and Newzerlands Ambassador Eelco van Kleffens. Heard by short wave radio was Vincent Auriol, president of France.
