Recent telegraphic reports from the High Commissioner to the Secretary of State make it clear that the situation is being very carefully watched, and Lord Passfield is quite confident that the High Commissioner may be relied upon to take steps to ensure the maintenance of order, says a letter from the Colonial Office received here by the headquarters office of the Zionist Revisionist World Union, in reply to a communication which it sent to Lord Passfield recently drawing attention to the situation in Palestine, with special reference to the Arab agitation against the Jewish sealed armouries.
In this connection, the letter adds, Sir John Chancellor recently caused a communique to be issued to make it clear that the Government would not tolerate any speech or published comments on the subject of Jewish sealed armouries which would be calculated to cause apprehensionor to provoke incitement, and instructions were given by the High Commissioner that the proposed demonstrations against the arming of Jewish colonies would not be permitted.
In conclusion, the letter points out, that the 15th of August when, too, there had been Arab demonstrations arranged, passed off quietly without untoward incidents.
