Sir Harold MacMichael, Palestine High Commissioner, tonight advised the foreign office that 38 persons had been killed and 54 wounded in a terrific bomb explosion in the Haifa market place today. Most of the victims were said to be Arabs. Sir Harold’s telegram added that the authorities have “mastered the situation,” which nevertheless was still tense.
