Six youths, all Hungarian refugees, are under arrest here today, following a street brawl in which they shouted “Hitler is coming.” The Canadian Jewish Congress has requested the Dominion Department of Citizenship and Immigration to investigate the brawl because of its anti-Semitic and pro-Nazi implications.
Emmanuel Coke, an attorney and a member of the CJC Council, told the court where the youths were arraigned: “These assaults and the circumstances surrounding them have caused a great deal of dissatisfaction in certain parts of the community in Montreal. We must make these people understand that they cannot come over here, and attack citizens, threatening them with death and the coming of the Nazis and Hitler.”
