Six more Jewish officers were appointed Generals of the Red Army today in an order issued by Premier Joseph Stalin, bringing to twelve the number of Jews who have been raised to that rank in the past week. Those appointed today are Pytor Bialik, Michael Gurvich, Meyer Slavin, Lipe Kodorkov, David Entin and Abraham Petukovsky, all attached to the medical services.
Commenting on the major role which artillery plays in crushing Nazi resistance on the Russian front, Soviet newspapers pay tribute today to a Jew, Abraham Bikhovsky, dubbed “The Cannon King.” Bikhovsky, the papers report, increased the production of the cannon factories under his direction to ten times their pre-war output. From these plants come the most modern and effective Soviet artillery which pulverized the Nazi troops and facilitated the advance of the Russian tanks and infantry.
