Six of 28 defendants indicted for conspiracy to wreck the morale of the armed forces – including several of the nation’s leading anti-Semites – pleaded not guilty in United States District Court here today. Ralph Townsend, already serving an eight to 24 months sentence as an unregistered Japanese agent, refused to plead until he had consulted a lawyer.
Those who pleaded not guilty were: George Sylvester Viereck, also serving two to four years for violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act; Prescott Dennett, who was recently drafted into the Army; James True, Charles B. Hudson, Elmer J. Garner end his son, James F. Garner.
