Six Writers to Receive 1982 Literature Awards Given Annually by the Fernando Jeno Fund

Six writers in Hebrew, Yiddish and Spanish from four countries will receive the 1982 prizes for literature awarded annually by the Fernando Jeno Fund, it was announced here. Each prize amounts to $500.

The winners, selected by a jury of the Jewish Central Committee’s Cultural Commission are: Jacob Meitlis, of London, for his book in Yiddish, “Fun Vaitn Amol Biz Haint”; Shlomo Strauss-Marko, of Israel, for his Yiddish book, “Poilishe Yidn In Di Welder”; Dr. Yeshayahu Austri-Dunn, of Israel, for his book in Hebrew, “Metushelach”; Menahem Gelehrter, also of Israel, for his Hebrew book, “Tzioni”; Eliahu Toker, of Buenos Aires, for his translation of Yiddish poetry into Spanish; and Alicia Korenbrot, of Mexico, for her essay in Spanish on Maimonides.

The Fernando Jeno Fund was established in 1976 by the widow and children of the late Fernando Jeno, a philanthropist and former president of the Jewish Central Committee of Mexico. The committee will hold a reception on March 2 in honor of the recipients of the 1982 awards.
