A 60-man study mission of the United Jewish Appeal arrived in Israel today in two planes under the leadership of Rabbi Herbert A. Friedman, executive vice-chairman of the organization. At Vienna, the mission had the unique experience of meeting 13 elderly Jewish immigrants coming from the Soviet bloc countries, nine of them from the Soviet Union, who completed their journey to Israel in the mission’s plane.
Rabbi Friedman reported that the UJA 1955 campaign would close with more than $56 million raised. He said that $10.3 million had been raised in the special campaign for North Africa and declared that in the light of events in North Africa and the increasing emigration from the area, UJA would have to raise more funds in 1956 than this year.
