Slovak Jewish leaders expressed disappointment after an appeals court in Berlin rejected a compensation claim for Slovak Holocaust victims. In a lawsuit that dates back to 2001, Slovakia’s Central Union of Jewish Religious Communities sought to reclaim up to $63.4 million for payments the pro-Nazi Slovak state made to the Third Reich to transport more than 57,000 Slovak Jews to death camps.
