Slovakian authorities have denied that Germany has asked them to halt the deportation of Jews to Poland because of the scarcity of food there, it is reported in the Grenzbote, Bratislava daily, reaching here today.
Sano Mach, Slovakian Minister of the Interior, in a broadcast today over the Bratislava radio, declared that only 19,000 of Slovakia’s 90,000 Jews remain in the country and that they too will be deported shortly. Mach stated that confiscation of shops, factories, land and houses belonging to Jews was proceeding rapidly.
Meanwhile, a Czech land owner, Joseph Ondrich, was fined 300 crowns for hiding several Jews in his villa in the Tatra mountains, in an attempt to prevent their deportation, the Grenzbote reported.
