Jewish families in small communities and isolated areas who are unable to obtain a rabbi or student rabbi to conduct High Holy Day services will receive special assistance and guidance this year from the Union of American Hebrew Congretions so that they may conduct their own, it was announced here today.
The groups are being offered a unique High Holy Day Kit by the New Congregations Department of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. This aid is being offered only to those groups who do not reside near one of the Reform temples.
The kit contains mimeographed material describing steps on how to conduct a service, proper use of the Union Prayer book, High Holy Day sermons, directions and music for blowing the shofar or ram’s horn, a sample children’s religious service, and guidance on the organization of committees to handle the various phases of worship details. In addition, the folder includes a list of religious materials such as Prayer books, altar cloths, kiddush cups, shofars, Torah covers and music, and where these objects may be obtained for the conducting of the service.
