Over 1,500 guests attended a reception here in honor of former South African Premier Jan Christian Smuts. The guest of honor reiterated his appeal for a renewal of “Angle-Jewish friendship, since both peoples have a common faith in the dignity of human personality.”
Gen. Smuts, asserting his belief in “Israel’s mission as a unifying and pacifying force in the Middle East,” recalled the “great things which Israel has given to the world throughout history.” President Weizmann’s “40 years in England,” he added, “led to the development of a close relationship between the British and Jewish peoples.”
