Smuts Says Jewish National Home Will Be Built with Aid of League and Great Britain

That the Jewish National Home would be built in Palestine with the help of England and the League of Nations, both of whom are responsible for the realization of the Palestine Mandate, was the statement made by General Jan Christian Smuts, noted South African statesman, on his arrival in New York this week. General Smuts, who is here as the guest of the American League of Nations Society, will address a luncheon of the Zionist Organization of America on January 17.

“I am glad,” General Smuts told a representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, “to have an opportunity of addressing American Jews and of assuring them that Great Britain will live up to her promises and fulfill the Balfour Declaration. I see no reason why the Arabs and the Jews who have lived together peacefully for thousands of years should not cooperate amicably and build up Palestine. I am sure that sooner or later the Arabs will realize the benefit of Jewish immigration to Palestine.”
