More than 1,000 persons from all parts of the Union of South Africa gathered here last night at a banquet to mark the 50th anniversary of the Hebrew Order of David, largest Jewish fraternal organization, somewhat on the order of the B’nai B’rith in the United States.
Congratulatory messages from all the major organizations were received by the group’s leaders and both Orthodox Rabbi L Rabinowitz and Reform Rabbi M. C. Weiler commended the ideals of the order. Percy Rappaport, grand master of the organization, announced a number of contributions by the order to Israel and other causes in commemoration of the jubilee celebration.
