A resolution rejecting the Communist charges against Israel, the Zionist movement and the Joint Distribution Committee was adopted here yesterday at a joint meeting of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies and the Zionist Federation. Only two of some 150 delegates at the meeting opposed the motion.
The resolution expressed the South African Jewish community’s “profound consternation and alarm” at the reports of an anti-Jewish policy in Czechoslovakia and other Communist states. It termed the charges against Isarael, the Zionist movement and the J.D.C. “fantastic” and “baseless,” pointing out that they” must inevitably have the most disastrous consequences for the Jewish populations” of those countries. If also urged the entire civilized world to condemn the Communist policy as a violation of human rights.
