Continuation of the 20 percent premium for funds brought in by middle class immigrants, which the Israel Government plans to replace with a direct loan to the immigrants by the Jewish Agency, was urged today by representatives of the South American Settlers Association in a meeting with Finance Minister Levi Eshkol.
The Minister promised that the matter would be reconsidered at an early meeting of the Jewish Agency executive. In the meantime, he said, the Agency would grant a premium in the form of a ten-year loan to immigrants now en route to Israel or who are in the process of settlement. The settlers representatives contended that replacement of the premium with a loan would discourage prospective immigrants.
