Margery Goldsmith, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Harry B. Goldsmith, of 45 East Sixty-fifth street has completed the plans for her forth-coming marriage to Mr. George Clark Engel, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Engel, of 10 East Eighty-fifth street.
The ceremony will take place at the Hotel Waldorf-Astoria on June 19 at four thirty o’clock. About two hundred are expected to attend this and a reception which will follow. The bride will have her sister, Miss Elinor Goldsmith as maid of honor, and the other attendants will be the Misses Alice May Conreid, Jane Engel, sister of the groom; Edith Erdmann, Barbara Forsch, Louise Grumbach, Pheobe Hochstader, Nina Lowenstein and Jane Sicher. Mr. Edward Harris will be Mr. Engel’s best man, and the ushers will include the Messrs. Joseph Berlinger, Justin Bijur, Malcolm Foster, Richard Kahn, Lee Spegelberg, Theodore Rittenberg, Harry Goldsmith, brother of the bride, and George Rosenfeld, brother-in-law of the groom.
Margery, who was graduated from Smith College last Spring, has been doing work at the Cornell Medical Center this past winter. Her athletic prowess is well known to those who spend the summer on the Jersey coast. The groom is also possessed of many talents. An outstanding one is his ability to play one of the most elegant games of bridge extant, a fact which a great many dubs have learned to their sorrow.
Many affairs have been given during the winter in honor of this popular young couple. One of the most delightful was a kitchen party given by Miss Erdmann, which for originality as well as hilarity should certainly receive some sort of prize. The dinners and theatre parties were too numerous to mention.
The wedding is looked forward to with the greatest interest.
Another wedding of interest is that of Miss Susan Angelo to Mr. Richard E. Lang of Seattle. Invitations have recently been sent out by Mr. and Mrs. Leonard A. Cohn of 550 Park avenue, to the large reception which will follow the ceremony. This reception will be held at the Hotel Pierre on May 2 at half after four. It is said that some five hundred people will attend.
Mrs. Arthur Carns is on a trip around the world.
With the advent of Spring more and more people have been spending week-ends in the country. Last week-end the Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, New Jersey, was filled to overflowing. The course on Sunday was reminiscent of a fourth of July week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Wimpfheimer had dinner at the clubhouse on Saturday night with Dr. and Mrs. Slocum.
Mr. Adolph Lewisohn is giving a dinner for twenty-five people on May 9th at his home, 881 Fifth avenue. The guests will include Mr. and Mrs. Albert Forsch, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Guggenheimer, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Liebman, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Sterne, and Mr. and Mrs. David Heyman. Mr. Lewisohn is well known for his art collection and his great philanthropic activities.
Edith Baker and the elibible Mr. John Schiff will “cry the banns” on May 3 at the former’s home.
