The promotion of a memorial to the late Moses A. Leavitt, vice-chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee, marked the first meeting here of the Social Service Division of the United Jewish Appeal which is seeking $125, 000 to establish a Moses A. Leavitt Memorial Library at the Paul Baerwald School of Social Work in Jerusalem. Many volunteer workers throughout the country are invited to participate in this memorial.
More than $60, 000 was pledged at the meeting to the Social Service Division’s 1966 campaign for UJA in New York. Philip Bernstein and Gottlieb Hammer, the division’s campaign co-chairmen, stressed the importance of a vigorous effort on the part of all agencies. They announced that the division’s annual luncheon will be held on May 4 at the Essex House here, and that Israel Ambassador Avraham Harman will be the guest of honor at that occasion.
