The slaying of Semion Petlura, leader of Ukrainian pogrom bands, by Sholom Schwartzbard, in revenge for the anti-Jewish massacres in the Ukraine during Petlura’s rule, was the subject of discussion at a meeting of the Executive of the Socialist International held here.
The discussion came up as a result of a complaint submitted to the Executive by B. Locker, a delegate of the Poale Zion, and Dr. Abramowitz, representing the Bund, against the Ukrainian Social Democrats who have taken sides with the Petlura forces in the Schwartzbard case which will come up shortly before the Paris court. A special committee was appointed by the Executive to inquire into the matter and to render judgment.
The Executive Committee of the Socialist International also adopted a motion introduced by Mr. Locker which purposes to add a paragraph to the Washington agreement. The paragraph is to the effect that the Socialist parties urge the mandatory powers to introduce an eight-hour day in the mandated territories and legislation for the protection of labor. Mr. Locker described the difficult conditions from which Palestine labor suffers. Mr. Williams declared on behalf of the British Labor Party that his party will support the fight of Palestine labor for proper labor legislation.
