The resolutions commission of the Socialist International, holding its world congress here, adopted unanimously today a resolution expressing “regret” over the deprivation of cultural and religious rights suffered by the Jews in the Soviet Union, and calling upon the USSR to accord to Russian Jewry “all the rights given to all other nationalities” in the Soviet Union.
Mrs. Golda Meir, Israel’s former Foreign Minister, now secretary-general of Mapai, the dominant political party in Israel, addressed the parley earlier, calling for equal rights for Soviet Jews, Mrs. Meir heads Israel’s delegation to the congress. A proposal was made to the congress by Emanuel Scherer, leader of the Bund, the Jewish Socialists, in the United States, suggesting that the International send an investigating group to the USSR to probe the Jewish position,” The resolution adopted by the Commission was introduced by Dr. S. Levenberg, leader of the Labor Zionists in Britain.
