Sol Polakoff, noted Jewish labor leader and one of the founders of the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union, died yesterday at the Beth Israel Hospital from blood-poisoning. He was 60 years old.
Polakoff was one of the pioneers of the Jewish trade union movement in this country. Born in Talna, Russia, he came to America in 1897 and immediately joined the Cloakmakers Union. In 1907 he was a leader of his local’s strike, and in recognition was made a member of the Joint Board of the International, which he helped build.
