One soldier was killed and an officer wounded today when British troops clashed with an Arab band near Jenin. Twelve Arabs were reported to have been killed by machine-gun fire from Royal Air Force planes which aided the troops.
High Commissioner Sir Harold Alfred MacMichael today broadcast an appeal to the Palestine population to aid in establishing law and order, warning Arabs and Jews against alienating the sympathies of the British people.
The new High Commissioner, in his first address following his arrival yesterday, said it was not necessary to speculate on what results might be foreseen for either the Arabs or Jews were it not that a strong power, unmoved by visions of aggrandizement, was continuing its support.
He added that Arab, Jewish and British interests coincided.
