Solomon L. Sulzberger, prominent Chicago Jewish philanthropist and business man and brother of Cyrus L. Sulzberger, died yesterday aboard the S. S. Aquitania at the age of 73, according to word received here today. He was returning with his wife from a trip to Carlsbad. Mr. Sulzberger was an uncle of Arthur Hays Sulzberger, vice-president of the “New York Times” and son-in-law of Adolph S. Ochs.
Born in Philadelphia, he came to Chicago after his graduation from high school. He became prominent in the paint and varnish business. For more than thirty years he was active in Chicago Jewish philanthropies, having been a member of the board of directors of the Jewish Charities of Chicago and president of the Jewish Aid Society of Chicago.
