Some 1000 persons marched Sunday in a heavy rainfall for 21/2 hours from Rock Creek Park, Washington, to the Walter Johnson High School in suburban Rockville, Maryland, carrying banners honoring Israel’s Independence Day which will officially be celebrated Wednesday. At the stadium they joined another 1000 people for a brief Remembrance Day ceremony which included the singing of Hatikvah, the recitation of El Mole Rachmim (prayer for the dead), and a skit on Israel’s martyrs. Sunday night several thousand people gathered in the Washington Hebrew Congregation building in another celebration of Israel’s Independence Day. Both events were sponsored by the Jewish Community Council of Greater Washington.
