Some 180 Brazilian Holocaust survivors each received payments of $500 last week as part of a fund established in 1997 by Swiss banks for needy survivors. In total, some 2,700 survivors live in Brazil, according to the president of Brazil’s Jewish Confederation, Jack Terpins.
