Some 200 fervently Orthodox Jews clashed with police during a demonstration in Jerusalem against a new restaurant doing business on the Sabbath. Some of the protesters shouted “Shabbas, Shabbas” while overturning trash cans and throwing stones at police. Five demonstrators were arrested for throwing stones at police from a rooftop. The chef at Cafe Fresco, whose menu includes non-kosher seafood, was quoted as saying that the restaurant would remain open on the Sabbath.
