Some U.S. lawmakers are trying to gain support for a congressional resolution calling on President Clinton to unequivocally state that the United States will actively oppose a unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state. House Majority Whip Rep. Tom Delay (R-Texas) and Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) are circulating a letter stating that Clinton has “failed to communicate our opposition to such a provocative action.” They said they will introduce the resolution when Congress returns in January.
