Police authorities of Quebec Province were hunting today for Rene Bolduc, son of the chief of police of nearby Plage Laval, in connection with anti-Jewish riots which broke out there last week, while members of the Canadian Army Provost Corps continue to patrol the streets of the village in order to prevent new outbreaks.
Queried as to the role played by his son in the attacks on Jewish visitors to the summer resort, the chief of police of Plage Laval today stated that he had no comment to make. He expressed resentment, however, at the “intrusion” of the provincial police authorities. His son disappeared shortly after the riots had been quelled and has not been seen since. Moe Herscovitch, former Canadian Olympic star, who was attacked by some twenty men in the riot, is likely to lose the sight of one eye, it was reported today.
The Canadian Jewish Congress, in a statement condemning the riots in Plage Laval, pointed out that “this was not a mere incident, but part of a planned terror which a band of hooligans are conducting against the Jewish inhabitants of the summer resort.” The statement warned that “if proper steps are not taken against the anti-Semitic terrorists at Plage Laval, then serious racial riots may take place.” Provincial police continue to watch the highways leading to the resort and are reported to have stopped a number of trucks occupied by youths, some of whom were armed with baseball bats.
