The Government of South Africa will create a special “Israel Export Committee” to facilitate the export of commodities from this country to the Jewish state, it was announced here today. Dr. M.D. Steyn, Secretary of Finance, is chairman of the new group.
Owing to conditions now prevalent in the Union, exports to Israel will be confined to products in surplus supply or goods likely to become surplus soon. The government will consider only applications for export to Israel emanating from a joint supply committee set up by the Zionist Federation and the Israel Appeal.
