The Board of Deputies of South African Jews, at a special meeting today, decided to appear before the Anglo-American inquiry committee, when it holds hearings in Palestine next month. At the same time the Board declined an invitation extended by the Anglo-Jewish Association to attend its conference on Jewish problems, which opens in London on Feb. 23.
Meanwhile, Sir Reginald Coupland, former member of the Peel Commission on Palestine, who is now visiting in South Africa, declared in a broadcast that the Jews of Palestine are the only people willing and able to provide homes for the remants of European Jewry. He pointed out that the Anglo-American commission must endeavor to solve the Arab-Jewish deadlock, and added that “we would warmly welcome the cooperation of the United States in dealing with the problem, which should not be Britain’s business alone.”
