A torchlight procession organized by the South African Zionist Youth Council jade its way from the main synagogue to a mass demonstration the local City Hall where the Israeli flag was unfurled. Speakers urged the Union of South Africa to recognize the infant state, pointing to the traditional friendship that has always existed between South Africa and the Jews of Palestine.
