Tuesday, Dec. 7 had been proclaimed a Day of Mourning for Europe’s Jews by the Board of Deputies of South African Jews. Jewish businesses will close on that day and synagogue services will be held.
It is also planned to hold mass rallies in the larger cities protesting the extermination of European Jewry and demanding action to save the survivors. In Johannesburg, the meeting will be addressed by Minister of Justice Colin Steyn and the Bishop of Johannesburg.
