Premier Malan of South Africa and Foreign Secretary Forsyth arrived in Israel today for a short visit. They were welcomed by Michael Comay Deputy Director General of the Israel Foreign Office, and Dansky Shaitman of the South African Zionist Federation.
Premier Malan, who left for Jerusalem, told representatives of the press here that he desires to see “as much as possible” of Israel’s achievements. Mr. Forsyth declared that South Africa regards the Middle East as a security region of South African defense and is therefore interested in the defense of the Middle East.
In Jerusalem, Dr. Malan spent three hours in the Jordan-held part of the city and returned to the Jewish section for tea with Premier David Ben Gurion He will spend the night in Haifa and will tour Nazareth and the Galilee tomorrow, concluding his visit with a dinner in Tel Aviv arranged by the Foreign Minister. It is understood that no political discussions will be held with him during his visit here as a guest of the Israel Government.
