After being on the air for 15 months, the Menorah Program sponsored by the S.A. Zionist Federation, is to be discontinued at the end of this month. This decision was taken by the executive council of the S.A. Zionist Federation, following a letter received from Springbok Radio in which it was stated that the present form of the Menorah Program was not “acceptable” any more.

The Menorah Program aimed to provide broadcasts depicting the cultural heritage of the Jewish people and the music treasures of modern Israel. Owing to the limitations imposed by the broadcasting authorities, however, no direct reference to Zionism was permitted, and the main emphasis had to be on music and song rather than the spoken word.
