A South American Zionist Congress, to be held under the auspices of the Jewish Agency, will open here July 9, it was announced today. More than 175 delegates representing Zionist groups in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay will participate in the week-long conference.
An Agency spokesman explained that the Congress is being convened at this time for four major purposes: 1. To review the present situation of the Zionist movement in South America; 2. To ascertain ways and means for raising the standard of the movement in Latin America and to create new instruments to strengthen Zionism in South America; 3. To expand the Chalutziut movement and widen the program of Jewish education for the continent’s Jewish youth; 4. To stimulate private capital investment in Israel and enlarge the current fund-raising drives for Israel.
