Local Jewry has raised $2,000 toward the Allied Jewish Campaign fund at two meetings here yesterday with the prospect that a $5,000 total would be reached in a week. Phillip P. Sachs of Chicago opened the local drive as principal speaker at a banquet given in the Oliver hotel. A hundred per cent cooperation was given the leaders of the drive in the matter of contributions.
Rabbi Samuel S. Siegel of Chicago addressed a mass meeting at the Hebrew Institute, where additional funds were raised. Rabbi William M. Stern of Temple Beth El gave the invocation. Simon Deutsch was chairman of the drive.
