The Southern Israelite, a weekly Jewish newspaper published here, has endorsed Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey for the Presidency of the United States. In an editorial titled, “We Stand With Humphrey,” the paper noted that it had rarely endorsed candidates for political office, “but these are not usual times.” The editorial said that Mr. Humphrey “is by all odds the best qualified of all the candidates for the highest office in the land. Humphrey has a long record of constructive achievement in public service on behalf of all people…He has sponsored legislation for the social betterment of the common man.”
